Meet the Ultimate Entertainment Centre: Xbox One

The long awaited Xbox One has finally arrived, albeit its not called the Xbox 720 like many people thought, for a very long time. Either way, its finally here, and its actually a lot like what the FTI team predicted a few months back, saying that the future in the living room could be an all around device, and from what Microsoft unveiled on the 21st of May, that turned out to be very true.


So, why would Microsoft want to take over the living room with a device that can do everything you would ever want it to do, or need it to do? Well, the answer to that is actually quite simple, to kick every other competitor out of the living room, which in turn could make Microsoft a ton of money. You don't need a standalone PVR anymore with the Xbox One, The Blu-ray player is no longer needed, since that is also built into the Xbox One. It does everything, from gaming, where the Xbox has been centered since its original release quite a few years ago now, and now it can even do Skype calls, and all of that other stuff mentioned. The really cool part, is you can run more than one app at once, and according to Microsoft, they launch extremely fast, as if you were changing the channel. Their demonstration proved that much, but the world will know for certain in the coming months when its actually released.

The new Xbox One, Kinect, and Controller

The Xbox One features an 8-core processor, which is pretty cool, but over time that coolness of the 8-core processor is going to wear off, since it is gaining more popularity out there in the tech world. You're just seeing them more and more. It also features 8GB of RAM, which is pretty good, although for some reason I expected a little more than that, its right on par with the Playstation 4, aside from the different types of RAM in each device. It also has HDMI in and out, and of course, USB 3.0, which is becoming standard. The Xbox One also supports 4K and 1080p, so it should be able to keep up for a little while. It also has a 500GB hard drive, which is pretty good. Now there could be other specs that Microsoft hasn't released yet, but according to a CNET News video, the world is supposed to learn more about the Xbox One at E3, which is in early June. Aside from all of that, the Xbox One features a new controller as well.

Overall, the Xbox One does seem to be ahead of everything else that all of Microsoft's other competitors  have put out so far. Microsoft may have had an abysmal failure with the Surface tablets, this may be where Microsoft does keep up in the industry. The Xbox One has a lot of the same OS design cues from Metro as well, which is pretty good, as it shows that Microsoft is attempting to streamline its products, oh and not to mention that the Xbox One looks pretty good.

The Xbox One will also include a new Kinect, which allows the user to use voice commands and gestures to control the system, which is pretty cool as well.

The new Xbox One is overall pretty cool, a phrase that has become a little overused in this post, but its still a pretty good way to put it. Time will tell whether this thing will take off or not, but you have to admit this thing does have potential, assuming Microsoft plays their cards right.
